Monumental Inscription

In memory of
WILLIAM WILSON Junr
of the Retreat
near Whitehaven, Cumberland
who lost his health
while in the Wesleyan
Theological Institution London
preparatory to his entering
on the itinerant ministry
and came to this Island
for the recovery of his health
but died on the 23rd Octr 1839
one month after his arrival
Though far from home he met
with friends especially
Dr. and Mrs KING
at whose house he remained
until he died: and whose
kindness will never be forgot
as he lived wholly devoted
to God so the end was peace
His last words were
Tell my parents
I die a happy death
This stone is erected by his
sorrowing and bereaved parents
"Forgive O Lord the parents wish
that death had spared their son
and helped them from their hearts to say
Thy will be done"

also
the Revd JOS HELLIWELL
the much esteemed Pastor
of the Congregational Church
Whitehaven who died on
the 10th Feby 1840
His remains are enterred
near to those of his friend WM WILSON
"He being dead yet speaketh"
