Sacred to the memory of
HENRIETTA PEARCE SHARP
the beloved wife of WILLIAM SHARP Esquire
of this Parish
and mother of six surviving children
She died January 28th 1840
in the County of Devon, England
aged 55 years
Her remains are deposited in the church-yard
of the Parish Church of Tor
This monument is erected by her husband
in token of the most tender love
and of the deepest affliction
as well as for a just tribute to one
whose virtues it is not sought to set forth
but simply to acknowledge and commemorate
She was indeed a truly affectionate
and faithful wife
and a most tender and devoted mother
Her warmth, kindness and sincerity of character
extended themselves through every relation of life
She died after a long and painful illness
so borne as to show that He
who was her hope in another life
was likewise her support in this
"Lliving she lived unto the Lord
and dying she died unto Him"
May God bless her memory to us as an example
hallowed as it is by the most sacred
and tenderest associations
